Bound by their eagerness and resolve to provide humanitarian service to an area touched with poverty, a group of businessmen convened on September 2, 1992 and decided to organize a club that would help alleviate the plight of the poor and the destitute.

The marathon pre-organizational meeting of a core group composed of Harry C. Angping, Gerry Sevilla, Raymond Qua, Edison Tantuco and Marcelino Ong at the Emerald Garden in Ermita, Manila, gave birth to the Rotary Club of San Nicolas Manila.

During the same meeting a modus vivendi was forged between the newly-organized Rotary Club of San Nicolas Manila and the Rotary Club of Manila South, the Mother club, represented by its President Eli Pasamba and his team led by PP/DGSR Tino Yokingo, PP Angel Robis and PP Dominador Jose, fomalizing the sponsor of the fledgling club by the Mother club.

In the first meeting between the core group and their sponsors, the newly organized Rotary Club of San Nicolas Manila sought the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Manila South. They then proposed that its territory be set up at Chinatown, the heart of Manila’s commercial district for a long time, which has had a reputation of being progressive community. However, this commercial area had many depressed squatter areas in its periphery. Such conditions firmed up the initiative and motivation to establish a Rotary Club.

Exactly 28 days later upon suggestion of the Mother club, the Club held its first Club Meeting at the Century Park Sheraton Hotel. Not long after, the core group succeeded in recruiting members required for its eventual chartering.

On October 14, 1992, the core group decided to rename the club to ROTARY CLUB OF CHINATOWN-MANILA. The Club opened its membership to women, a historic decision that gave this Club the distinction as the first Club in the District to accept women as Charter Members.

As a fitting climax to the untiring efforts of the core group, the Charter of the Rotary Club of Chinatown Manila got the approval of Rotary International on February 8, 1993.

The Charter Presentation was done in June 9, 1993 at the Fiesta Pavilion of the Manila Hotel with then Mayor Alfredo Lim as Guest of Honor and Inducting Officer.

The Club has been under the stewardship of the following past presidents: Harry C. Angping, 1993-94; Raymond C. Qua, 1994-95; Rosie D. Go, 1995-96; Santos C. Sy 1996-97; Ruby L.
