A group of Rotarians from RC San Miguel, Manila namely: Atty. Ernesto L. Delos Santos, Mr. George C. Tang, Mr. Abito B. Orcullo, Dr. Lawrence L. Pollard and IPP Romeo Pastoril met at the University of Manila on July 18, 1990 for the forming of an extension club of Rotary Club of San Miguel.
Starting August 1,1990, the group decide to hold weekly meetings every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Manila Hotel. Inspired by the Objectives of Rotary ,on 15 August 1990,the membership swelled to twenty (20) and the group started to come out with a regular weekly Newsletter originally named: “Ermitano” and was later on renamed “Ermita Link”. Prominent Rotarians were invited as guess speaker for its weekly meeting in order to provide the members with necessary Rotary Information.
On October 1990, District 381Governor Vicente ”Vince” Carlos called a meeting with RC Bagumbayan-Manila and RC San Miguel to co-sponsor the new club and appointed RC Bagumbayan-Manila PP Serapio “Gabby” Gabriel(+) as District Special Representative (DGSR). RC Bagumbayan –Manila agreed to share the territory covering Ermita, Malate and Singalong.
The first official meeting under the designated DGSR was held on 14 November 1990 at the Manila Midtown Hotel. On November 28, 1990, the group decided to change the time and the venue of their regular meeting from Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. at the Manila Midtown Hotel to Friday, 7:00 p.m., Hyatt Regency Hotel, Pasay City. Election of the members of the Board and Officers was held on 07 December 1990. Pursuant to the strong recommendation of DGSR Gabby Gabriel(+), this Club was admitted to the Rotary International on 18 February 1991 with thirty five (35) charter members.
The Club has implemented significant community and international service projects like the “Bread For Life” and “Light A Hope’ Matching Grants projects, it has undertaken and carried out medical and dental outreaches, laudable environmental preservation projects such as “Sagip Gubat Sagip Dagat Sagip Kalikasan Preserve Planet Earth Project,” Infanta Juice Water Project, “Lock On You” Mass Wedding – Save-A-Family Project and the annual gift-giving project jointly with sister club RC Tolo Harbour Hongkong and RC Ermita, Manila has always been active in various, if not all of District 3810 activities.
The Club now meets every Thursday, 7:00 p.m. at the Aloha Hotel, Roxas Blvd., Malate, Manila.
