Prison Outreach Project

December 28, 2013, Camp Sampaguita, New Bilibid Prison, Muntinlupa City - The Rotary Club of Ermita Manila along with 18 other Rotary Clubs in District 3810 (Manila East, Jose Abad Santos, Malate Prime, Baywalk Manila, Manila Midtown, Remedios Circle, Manila Taft, Manila South, Quiapo Central, Manila Sta. Ana., Manila San Miguel, Sampaloc, Pasay Silangan, Pasay Harrison, Pasay Business District, CEPZ, Tanza and Silang) hosted a Prison Outreach Project to the inmates of the Medium Security Camp known as Camp Sampaguita of the New Bilibid Prison.

A short program was prepared where FCP Leah Banta acknowledged the support of the co-host clubs and introduced the FCPS present. Ptr. Butch Belgica, an Honorary Member of RC Ermita Manila gave an inspiring and challenging talk. Being a former inmate of Camp Sampaguita, Ptr. Butch encouraged the inmates to value their dignity and appreciate hardwork and above all a right relationship with God. Slippers, toothbrushes, soaps, mats and Jollibee meals were shared to 300 inmates. One could not help but be teary eyed as the inmates received the gifts with smiles in their faces and a word of thanks on their lips. This was enough reward for everyone who came. Though it was indeed a tiring day - it was all worth it.

Thank you to all FCPs who co-hosted and who came to join the outreach. To my fellow RC Ermita members, thank you for your support. Special thanks to PE Jeremiah Belgica and Ptr. Ramil Ceclio and his wife, Ptra. Shirley for coordinating with the New Bilibid Prison. To everyone who gave, may you all be blessed!
