HISTORY

The formation of the new club started when the members of RC Baywalk Manila wanted to participate in the District Area Meeting, which is normally held on Monday that conflicts with the club’s meeting day.  The members decided to have a division of the house and voted to make Tuesday as the official meeting day of the club.  However, there was a deadlock after the voting was conducted.  On July 12 2008, those members who preferred Tuesday as the meeting day initiated the forming of a new club at Yakitori Restaurant, CCP Manila.

July 15, 2008, at Golden Fortune Seafood Restaurant, T. M. Kalaw St., Manila, twelve club members of the RC Baywalk , namely,  Romy Malcampo, Bong Tagle, Winston Ongchinke, Rodolfo Carino, Wien Olladas, Elvis Alan Patao, Eduardo Bartolome, Emmanuel Plaza, Ramon Sabinorio, Salvador Magpantay, Rick Suarez and Manolo Enriquez, finally decided to form a new rotary club.  After brainstorming, the group accepted the name Rotary Club of Liwasang Bonifacio as proposed by Elvis Alan Patao.  Also at this meeting, our group unanimously elected Romy Malcampo as its Charter Club President and Wien Olladas as Charter Club Secretary.  Also, Bong Tagle was elected as the Legacy President for RY 2008-2009.

Immediately thereafter, our group did not waste time in completing the documentation for the setting up of a rotary club.  Our group informed and manifested to District Governor Josie Ang our intention to organized a Rotary Club.   And, on August 8, 2008, the District Governor sent her Chief of Staff Chris Querubin and Chairman for Club Extension Arsenic Ong to our group for discussion on how to organize a Rotary Club, the procedures and requirements.

Late August 2008, we decided to have RC Chinatown to be our mother club and an informal discussion with RC Chinatown President Samson Kaw on the possibility for their club to be our mother club was held.  Eventually, on September 16, 2008, in our club meeting, RC Chinatown duly represented by PDG Rosie Go, Pres. Samson Kaw, Sec. Shiela Abigael Lu, IPP Philip Lee and PP Bernie Sagsagat formally informed us that their club have agreed to be our mother club.  The signing of the mother club agreement was also done on said meeting.  Furthermore, we were advice that IPP Philip Lee will be our District Governor Special Representative.

During the early October 2008, we submitted all the required documents for setting up a Rotary Club with twenty-five (25) charter members.  During the processing of our papers for admission in the Rotary International, we were already doing club projects, namely, Feeding and Optical/Medical Mission, Police Officers Awards Night, October Beer Festivals, Visitation at the Correctional Institution for Women and Christmas Gift-Giving for Street Children.  On December 3, 2008, Rotary International approved the charter of RC Liwasang Bonifacio.  Our club conducted the Charter Presentation and Induction of Officers & 10 New Members on January 12, 2009 at Ambassador Hotel, Mabini Street Malate Manila.
