"a test of patience, leadership and commitment"

I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated Rotary leaders, men who lead by example, leaders who will not boss you around but will support and hear you when you call.
Membership in a Rotary club is as diverse as the variety of fruits or items in a grocery store. Every Rotarian carry with him or her individual accomplishments achieved in different ways, each one has a feather in his or her cap that took extra effort to accomplish. These successes brings obvious differences and the strength of character of each can be challenges in a Rotary club scenario. Yet, with the growing understanding brought about by consistent attendance to weekly meetings, friendly encounters in fellowships, the continuous offer of leadership training like what we had today, we all have the great opportunity to learn to adapt to each other's idiosyncrasies, pool our resources together in service to others, enrich our own personal growth and become leaders among leaders. That opportunity is open to all. That opportunity is yours for the taking.
Your club has placed in you their trust and confidence. There is an expectation that you bring with you, that ability to improve or enrich your group. When you carry the hope of many, it can become a source of energy or it can become a burden. That choice is yours and yours alone to make..
Jimmy Carter –said and I quote: "If you have a task to perform and are vitally interested in it, excited and challenged by it, then you will exert maximum energy. In the excitement, the pain of fatigue dissipates, and the exuberance of what you hope to achieve overcomes the weariness." End of quote.
Team 2008-2009 will be exciting, your enthusiasm will sustain it, your commitment will ensure its success. The goals we set are dream like, the work extremely hard… but our heart and our tenacity will keep us pushing.
One of the goals I enumerated to you this morning is our attempt to have 80% of our clubs having its own website. We live in an e world…. Our clubs must therefore exist in that world. Please visit the district website at http://rotary3810.org/ry2008-2009 and encourage your club members to support our effort to make this goal a reality. Our District Website Chair Gabe Trias has given us a more than friendly rate of Php 2,000.00 for the creation and maintenance of a club website. You can not find that price anywhere else. If all the clubs in our district can be reached through the web, our international friends can become our partners in our projects.
The Legacy team got together, became good friends, we ate together, sang and danced our hearts out. We spent some nights together, and shared our dreams. We want to share that dream with you. We dream of building a legacy village …. a cluster of 50 houses in Alapan, Imus, Cavite. It will be called the RI District 3810 Rotary Village….the Legacy Project. To compliment it, a multi-purpose center will be built as well. Instead of doing many small projects that we do moderately well, let us channel our efforts to one that will have a lasting impact for generations. Something we can all take pride in. A place where we can bring our members and future members to, our foreign visitors, our sister clubs, our visiting Rotary International dignitaries.
All proceeds of the district car raffle will go to this monumental undertaking. While we found it difficult to sell our car raffle tickets in the past, the purpose of the fund raising is well defined this time. We are not selling the chance to win a car but the opportunity to share in the building of homes allowing once forlorn families to dream again.
Every effort to help this project succeed will find recognition. Every car raffle lot will receive a particular citation ascending in recognition depending on the number of lots sold. When you help your club sell these tickets, you not only help in the Rotary Village project, you also raise funds for the club as well. For 20 thousand worth of tickets, you can raise a total of Php 120,000, keeping therefore Php100,000 as profit for your club and as a side bonus, you will be awarded for the fete. We request that you try, we request that you put an effort to go out and sell as many as you can.
You all came here as a team, we hope you come out of this District assembly as one, ready and raring to begin.
According to Andrew Carnegie and I quote , "Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results."
Right before us is a dream-like goal, lofty, high, difficult….a task that common men can shrink from… but Rotarians are not common people, Rotarians are the cream of the crop. We all boast of a roster of good people, movers, achievers. Our hearts are softened by people in need, our hands open to so we can lift others. Many of our hours are dedicated to thinking about the welfare of children, we plan about ways to improve the desolate, spreading kindness pervades our days. If common people can achieve uncommon results, then imagine what uncommon Rotarians can accomplish.
There is no greater feeling of fulfillment than serving others and moving for good purposes. And as Eleanor Roosevelt declared and I quote "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." I declare for all of us the belief in our Rotary Village dream ……….. Let's make this dream real…
Thank you very much.
