DCHR Gabe Trias with 4th Asian BMX Champion Steven WongOctober 31-November 1, 2009, Hong Kong - District Rotaract Chairman Gabe Trias headed the Philippine delegation to compete at the 4th Asian BMX Championship and HSBC Hong Kong BMX Open 2009 held in Hong Kong. DCHR Gabe brought along with him 3 riders including RC CEPZ Sports Development Program recipient, Rotaract Club of Cavite Economic Zone member Jefferson Odviar.

20 year old Eleazar Barba from Dumaguete City of the 4th Asian BMX Champion Steven Wong with 2nd & 3rd Runners Up from Japan.Jhong Hormillosa of the Philippine Team (Lane 3 #016) during his Semifinal run at HSBC Hong Kong BMX Open 2009.Philippine Team advanced to the semifinal round from a field of 19 riders at the 4th Asian BMX Championship. 17 year old Joseph Hormillosa from Iloilo City, the only Challenge Level entry in the Elite Class also advanced to the semifinal round from a low turnout of only 10 riders at the HSBC Hong Kong BMX Open 2009. Rotaractor Jeff Odviar, overwhelmed by the capabilities and experiences of his opponents and the quality of the race track, managed only to place fifth in a field of 6 elite riders including Japanese Olympian Akifumi Sakamoto.

Steven Wong from Hong Kong won this year's Asian BMX Championship four years in a row while Yvan Lapraz, the UCI Men Junior World Champion in 2007, won the HSBC Hong Kong Open 2009.

Eleazar Barba, Jefferson Odviar & Joseph HormillosaDCHR Gabe Trias headed the Philippine Team with 3 top riders in the country: (1) Eleazar Barba, Jr. - a top downhill rider from Dumaguete City with 3rd place finishes at 5th Dipolog BMX Riders Association (DBMXRA) BMX Racing in 2008 and at the Terry Larrazabal Bike Festival BMX Supercross in 2009 in Subic Bay Freeport Zambales winning the 4 Cross Event; (2) Jefferson Odviar - 22 years old from Rosario, Cavite who has the most experience in BMX Racing using UCI rules and the champion at 2008 Rolling Lane 4X/BMX Racing Challenge, Batasan Hills, Quezon City; and (3) Joseph Hormillosa - from Iloilo City, the youngest rider at 17, the champion at TA & AH 4X & BMX Racing in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte in 2009 his first competition in BMX racing.

The first time the Philippines sent a delegation to compete in an international BMX competition - 4th Asian BMX Championships and HSBC Hong Kong BMX Open 2009. Gabe Trias headed the delegation with 3 top riders from the Philippines: Jefferson Odviar from Rosario, Cavite, Eleazar Barba, Jr. from Dumaguete City and Joseph Hormillosa from Iloilo City.
