Angono Relief Operation

October 10, 2009, Angono, Rizal - After our relief operation in Taytay,  Rizal last October 7, another group of D3810 Rotary clubs went to Angono, Rizal  last Saturday, Oct. 10 to give relief bags and medicines.

This was led by our loving and compassionate DG Connie Beltran and energetic and persuasive AG Mercy Ong.   We met at Max's Restaurant at Tiendesitas at 8:45 am and at 9:20 a.m., our group of 10 cars convoyed to Angono City Hall.

A total of 400 relief bags worth P70,000 and P20,000 worth of medicines were turned over to Mayor Villamayor of Angono Rizal.  Mayor Villamayor is a good friend of AG Mercy and is a member of her club RC Malate.    Needless to say, our donations were warmly welcomed by the good Mayor and her constituents.

Up to now, there are still 4 baranggays still with 3 to 4 feet of flood waters.

The only way for relief goods to reach them is to load them in small improvised bancas and go door to door to the recipients.  It is in this light that we have asked the help of city government to distribute the relief goods in our behalf.

I would like to acknowledge and thank the following people and clubs for their support on this project.

AG Mercy & ViP Mark - RC Malate

ViP  Jun David - RC Sampaloc

SDG Ernest Yuyek  & ViP Rudolf Go - RC Pandday Pira

SDG Tony Chua & ViP Peter Ngo - RC Manila Metro<

ViP Eugene Tan - RC Ermita

RCBM members - RC Bagumbayan Manila

Theses 6 clubs pooled together their resources of P70,000 and prepared 400 bags of relief goods containing rice, powdered milk, corned beef, coffee, dried noodles, sugar and bottled water.  Members of RCBM were tasked to purchase and pack the relief bags.

In support of this relief operation, several clubs pooled together their resources to contribute P20,000 worth of medicines.

I want to thank DG Connie  and AG Mercy for sharing their precious time to be with us that day and giving us an opportunity to serve the needy.  I would like to thank my RCBM officers CT Melchor Go, Dir. Noli Alamazan, Dir. Roland Go, Dir. Richard Chua Chiaco for helping and joining me last Saturday.

Thank you also to Visonary Presidents:  Jun David, Kat Aguilar, Gen Masahud, Ed palma, Ester Ramos, Maya Ciriaco, Nick isip, Noel Belardo, Jun ibay & spouse Roni, who joined us in turning over the goods last Saturday.

Areas comprising our District is least affected by typhoon Ondoy, rather than watching our countrymen suffer, we took the initiative to help the flood victims in Laguna, Marikina, & Rizal and other areas.

Rotarians in our District are getting praises and accolades for the relief work we are giving.  Rather than just giving cash or goods to NGOs for distribution to flood victims, we do the extra mile by packing relief bags and giving it to beneficiaries.

We are certainly living up to our motto of Giving Service to people.

Mabuhay ang Rotarians ng District 3810.

Yours in Rotary Service,

ViP Henry Ongchan
