Final Report:  Relief Operation of R.I. District 3810
and Zuellig Family Foundation

It’s been a crazy full month past Ondoy. After immediate relief in the form of food, clothing and basic needs were delivered to typhoon victims, there is a pressing need for programs that will help the victims get back on their feet. The daunting task of rebuilding have been noted and our District 3810 led by District Governor Concepcion Beltran comprehensively addressed the issue by continuing the disaster relief operations now more concentrated in Northern Luzon.

SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES 

Oct. 16, 2009 – Our District thru CP Nito Siasat was able to get an allotment of (3,000) three thousand relief sets from Zuellig Family Foundation. Each set containing one 5 gallon plastic water container, plastic mats, blankets, mosquito net, cooking pot and some canned goods. The District’s participation would be in the form of manpower to help in repacking the relief goods and in the transport and deployment of said relief goods to assigned devastated area. 

Oct. 17, 2009 – Upon the invitation of DG Connie Beltran, DCHR Gabe Trias and DRR Izel Guatno mobilized Rotaractors to assist in repacking relief goods donated by Zuellig Family Foundation at the warehouse of Zuellig Pharma. Despite the short notice DRR Izel Guatno and DCHR Gabe Trias mobilized rotaractors from RAC Malate, RAC Pasay Millenium, RAC Manila and RAC CEZ. Ms. Eileen Leus of the Zuellig Family Foundation gave instructions to DRR Izel for the schedule of repacking. 

Oct. 20, 2009 – Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Pasay Southeast led by COS Pam Nadura and PP Ellen Landicho and their Rotaractors RAC Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay assisted in the repacking of relief goods. Rotaractors from RAC CEZ led by Pres. Con de Castro also pitched in to help. Members of the Rotary Club of Pasay Illustrado together with ViP Kat Aguilar, Dep. Gov. Lily Aguilar and DRR Izel Guatno were also present to help and coordinate the repacking and see to the needs of the volunteers in terms of drinking water and food. 

Oct. 21, 2009 – Repacking continued by members of RC Pasay Illustrado and RAC from RC Bagumbayan Manila and RAC District 3810 Batang Upper Bicutan. The first tranche of relief goods of about 650 sets were loaded in the van provided by PP Arsenic Ong of RC Downtown Manila to be transported to his warehouse at Carmen Pangasinan. 

Oct. 22, 2009 – Rotaractors from RAC Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay volunteered their services and some members of RC Pasay Illustrado together with VIP Kat Aguilar and Dep. Gov. Lily Aguilar were present until evening. 

Oct. 23, 2009 – The group of VIP Bong Cabatit, PP Nico de Leon, PP Arsenic Ong, CP Nito Siasat and Dep. Gov. Lily Aguilar went to the assigned area of distribution for an ocular inspection specifically Rosales and Villasis Pangasinan. The group coordinated with the Municipal Health Officers of the two towns respectively Drs Alimurong and Dy regarding distribution of goods, actual list of beneficiaries and method of distribution of relief goods. 

Oct. 24, 2009 – Rotaractors from RAC Malate together with RC Pasay Illustrado and DRR Izel Guatno were present to assist in repacking. Rotaractors from D3830 also was present. The second batch of relief goods of 500 sets were again transported to Pangasinan thru the kindness and courtesy of PP Arsenic Ong. 

Oct. 25, 2009 – DG Connie Beltran and ViPs Kat Aguilar, Noel Abelardo, Jun David, Jun Ibay and Bong Cabatit trooped to Pangasinan for the relief operation. Also with the group were Dep. Gov. Rene Gino, CP Nito Siasat and Ann Carmelita, DRR Izel Guatno, PP Gabe Trias and his Rotaractors, PP Nico de Leon and PP Arsenic Ong. Actual distribution of relief goods were effected in the Builders Bargain Center (courtesy of PP Arsenic Ong) for the recipients in Rosales. 277 kits were distributed to the typhoon affected families at Rosales Pangasinan and 44 kits were distributed to the affected families around Builders Center in Carmen Pangasinan. Ms. Eileen Leus of Zuellig Foundation assisted and helped in the distribution of relief goods in the presence of municipal health officers and teachers. Aqua Boxes from Australia and UK were distributed by District Governor Connie to the municipalities of Rosales, Pangasinan. In Villasis, Pangasinan, 509 kits were distributed and Aqua Boxes were donated by DG Connie. Relief distributions were effected at Lipay Elementary School at Villasis assisted also by the teachers, rotaractors and Rotarians. 300 kits reserved for Calasiao Pangasinan were not distributed due to time constraint and the operation group with PP Nico de Leon agreed to reset the distribution after All Saints Day. 

Oct. 27, 2009 – There was an appeal from Zuellig Foundation to help in repacking the remaining relief goods. RC Pasay Illustrado and members volunteered to assist in the repacking. 

Oct. 28, 2009 – DRR Izel Guatno and rotaractors from RAC Sta. Isabel, RAC Manila and RAC Malate volunteered their services for repacking. RC Pasay Illustrado VIP Kat Aguilar and members were present to help in repacking. 

Oct. 29, 2009 - Volunteers responded to the call of Zuellig Foundation for assistance. Forty five Rotaractors from RAC Sta. Isabel, RAC Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay, RAC Manila, RAC STI Makati, RAC Raha Sulayman, RAC Parañaque East Paragon and RAC Bicutan worked on packing the relief goods. Again RC Pasay Illustrado VIP Kat Aguilar and members together with DRR Izel Guatno were present to coordinate and assist in repacking. 

Oct. 30, 2009 – Rotaractors from RAC Sta. Isabel College and RC Pasay Illustrado with other volunteers from outside groups wrapped up and finished all the repacking of kits. 

All in our entire District 3810 helped in repacking 9,000 kits for the relief operation of Zuellig Family Foundation. The District now has an inventory of 500 kits. Each kit containing 1 cooking pot, canned goods and soap. The kits are intended for the flood victims in Laguna.

Special thanks to Ms. Eileen Leus, Dr. Anthony Faraon and Ms. Ching Araneta of Zuellig Family Foundation for the opportunity to serve. The District is also grateful to DRR Izel Guatno for her patience and kindness in coordinating with various rotaract clubs to help without which the task would be very difficult. Kudos to CP Nito Siasat who was instrumental in forging a liaison with the Zuellig Family Foundation thru Ms. Eileen Leus and our District 3810 as partners in service in this relief operation.   To all other clubs who have been involved in every opportunity to serve and share, thank you for the support and for living up to the spirit of Rotary’s “Service Above Self”. 

Last but not the least let me congratulate our District Governor Connie for exhibiting courage in galvanizing into action District 3810 to come to the aid of the typhoon victims.
