August 4, 2012, Universidad de Manila - Rotary Club of Manila Midtown hosted a Climate Change Adaptation & Disaster Risk Reduction Seminar with Manila Mayor Alfredo Lima and District Governor Maeng Mercado as Guest Speakers. The seminar was attended by members of the Sanguniang Barangays of Manila, Rotaractors and Interactors.
Earthquake, Extreme Weather Change, Heavy Rain, Drought........
Can we prevent them to happen?
Special guests are Honorable Alfredo Lim - Mayor of Manila City, MMDA General Manager Corazon Jimenez, and Atty. Cherry Melodias, City Director of Manila Area - DILG.
Our guest speaker who shared his invaluable knowledge about "Climate Change Adaptation" is Mr. Dennis Dela Torre - Division Head of Research & Development, Climate Change Commission. For the "Disaster Risk Reduction", said topic was presented and discussed by Mr. Ramon Santiago, MMDA, Flood Control & Information Center.
With Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction being closely linked, as extreme weather events are likely to occur in the future, consequently increasing the number and scale of disasters, our readiness and preparedness are very important. Not only on what to do in times of disasters but to provide knowledge and powerful capacities for adaptation to climate change. Damages and lost lives will never be replaced, damages caused by disaster may not recovered soon, so let's act NOW and not wait for disaster to overpower us.
