RC CEPZ Visits "Tahanang Paghubog"

Patronizing Produce to Benefit the Underprivileged Children

September 28, 2012, Rosario, Cavite - Rotary Club of Cavite Export Processing Zone (RC CEPZ) PeaceBuilder President Evelyn Dominguez and Club Secretary Gabe Trias visited Talleres de Nazaret to assess the assistance needs of the project in the areas of technology transfer, product development, management training and marketing assistance.

 

Sister Erlinda Dela Cruz Garaci, SSJ, welcoming PeaceBuilder President Evelyn Dominguez and Club Secretary Gabe Trias during their surprise visit at Talleres de Nazaret, a project in Rosario, Cavite, Philippines of The Mother Bonifacia Rodriguez Foundation, Inc., of the Religious Congregation of Siervas de San Jose (SSJ), a non-profit organization created to promote women workers and young women & youth, promoting their dignity as women workers and empowering them as agents of change and as enlightened consumers embracing and promoting the principles of Fair Trade.

 

Sr. Edit Lontok and two of the beneficiaries of the project (seated) welcomed RC CEPZ members at their Tahanang Paghubog (House of Formation). A total 9 at-risk young women are currently being orphaned by the project.

 

Capitalizing in the coastal town of Rosario, Cavite with the abundance of sea products like squid and mussels, Talleres de Nazaret (Shops of Nazareth) was developed to engage in seafood production utilizing its resources. Their product lines the project has developed are squid rings, crispy green mussels and squid heads.

 

Sister Erlin conducted a tour of the "factory" constructed only 5 years ago that manufactures their products employing out of school youths of the nearby barangays of Rosario, Cavite. Together with the nuns they acquired the technology know-how from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and through formal training and hands-on experience.

 

SSJ Sisters with Sr. Felma Ramones joining discussed the history and needs of the project with RC CEPZ Members. In addition to the current assistance being received, RC CEPZ was approached by Sr. Erlin during the club's participation at the National Family Week organized by SM City-Rosario last September 17-21 to request for assistance in marketing their product.

 

Project Achievements of Talleres de Nazaret-Rosario (TDNR)

 

200 7 - Recognized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as OTOP (One-Town-One-Product) of Rosario, Cavite receiving financial and technical assistance as part of capability building to be globally competitive.

 

April, 2010 - Recognized by CITEM (Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions), the marketing arm of DTI, as one of the Best Partners of Region IV-A and was given special setting at the IFEX (International Food Exhibition) last May 6-8, 2010.

 

October 5-9, 2010 - TDNR products were the only seafoo snacks chosen from the Philippines to join the ASEAN Food and Beverage Mission (AFBE) 2010 with Business Meetings in Tokyo, Japan.

 

May 12-15, 2011 - Given a special setting at the IFEX (International Food Exhibition Philippines) by the Bureau of Export Trade Promotions (BETP) of DTI at the Integrated Program for Micro Small (IPMS) Food Processors Pavilion.

 

June 14, 2011 - Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region IV awarded a grant to TDNR under their Community-Based Employment Program to enhance the production capability of the company.

 

June 15-19, 2011 - CITEM awarded a booth to TDNR at the Export Zone of the Manila Food and Beverage Expositiion (MAFBEX).
