Fresh start! Pandemic on year two.
My beloved club members have entrusted to me the leadership for this Rotary Year 2021-2022, with the RI theme Serve to Change Lives. The question that comes to my mind is, “How and where do we start?” To answer that and in collaboration with my team for this Rotary Year, we kicked it off via a Pre-Club Planning and Brainstorming session at Brgy. Anilao, Mabini, Batangas.
Joining me and my team were some of my ever-supportive colleagues in our club, which we limited in number as we make an effort to comply with our government safety protocols set by IATF. We embarked on our activity in an unusual setting on a mountainside overlooking the scenic seaside diving waters of Anilao, Batangas.
It was indeed a refreshing venue to stay at as we have been limited in mobility for more than a year brought about by the pandemic. It is also very timely to commune with Mother Nature with respect to the newest addition to Rotary’s Areas of Focus: Saving the Environment. We spent our time catching up, laughing, and preparing our meals together with our co-Rotarians.
After dinner, we casually did our brainstorming. It was a breeze, and before we knew it, we had a great and productive time of fellowship together. All were set for the actual club planning!
On the 6th of June 2021, we set our Club Planning. With excellent guidance from our club’s past presidents and Immediate Past President/TP Andrew, we prepared materials, presented proposed projects and many other plans for this Rotary Year. We adapted to the new norms and practices, and we did our Club Planning in a virtual setting via Zoom. We sent out invites to all our colleagues/members through our Messenger Group Chat, FB Group Page and sent text messages so that no one would miss out.
Lo and behold, attendance turned out well. Discussions were interactive, and planning was indeed successful. We highlighted how we can address the present challenges, especially in implementing our worthwhile life-changing projects. We sought ways to embark on this Rotary Year 2021-2022 journey while addressing the Seven Areas of Focus, District Goals, and Governor’s Challenge in a most applicable, efficient, and most especially, enjoyable way for each one of us. We explored some Membership/Admin concerns, such as club dues and meeting setup. We studied how to cater to the new ways of running a club. And we looked at calibrating our programs further to make our club more engaging with current and new members. Hopefully, all our plans will materialize.
Leadership on extended pandemic? I am confident we can carry on with great support from our club members and past presidents. As always, RCCM Yes We Can!
